Expansion valves

Expansion valves removes pressure from the liquid refrigerant to allow expansion or change of state from a liquid to a vapor in the evaporator. As the heat from the evaporation is absorbed, cold air is available to cool the interior of the vehicle.

The expansion valve is located in the liquid line between the condenser and the inlet of the evaporator. It operates on the opposite side of the system, relative to the compressor. Depending on the air conditioning system, there are two types of expansion valves: The thermostatic expansion valve and the throttle valve for orifice tube.
